A former high school math teacher in San Francisco, I began practicing Pilates in 2009 after having multiple surgeries and receiving multiple diagnoses. I have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, fibromyalgia, hyper-mobility, chronic migraines & plantar fasciitis, and many other illnesses which have rendered me permanently disabled. Both my hips have been replaced, as well as a couple of discs in my spine. I've had brain surgery, major abdominal surgery, and live with extreme fatigue and chronic pain all over my body. I am not your average Pilates instructor.
My personal experience living with multiple invisible physical disabilities has given me a nuanced understanding of movement variability, energy management, and the importance of thoughtful building of exercises. I am extremely empathetic, patient, and understanding of those in pain and can help find success in movement. Pilates has been instrumental in helping me manage my physical pain and limitations, and that lived experience deeply informs the way I teach. I approach each session with an emphasis on intelligent modifications, clear communication, and sustainable strength-building. I understand firsthand how empowering and healing intentional movement can be, and I am committed to creating an environment where clients feel safe, capable, and supported in their individual bodies. This perspective allows me to meet students where they are and guide them toward long-term strength, resilience, and confidence.
I have developed a calm, clear teaching style with a focus on correct form, and I have a strong respect for each client’s unique body and needs. I am great at
Meeting you and your body where you are and using that information to ensure you are using the correct form to execute each exercise for maximum benefit.
Using clear cueing, tactile feedback, and safe, inclusive options to build toward more challenging exercises.
Adapting programs for different bodies, injuries, and fitness levels, and creating tailored client programming.

"I want to start by saying I am a 75-year-old cancer survivor, and I was not at all enthused about working out. I felt weak and without any muscle. At the urging of my son, I tried it and now I am so glad I did! Wendy took the time to get to know me and what my goals, limitations, and concerns were. She continually checks in with me each time we meet to see how I'm feeling, what I want to work on. She also urges me to "try the next step" but does not push. I have been working with Wendy for four months, and each week I am pleasantly surprised how much stronger I feel. I would absolutely give Wendy "5 stars" for her class and urge you to try it out...especially if you have special considerations or are hesitant. She's great!" -Mariana V
